Turning your ideas into reality

By Alice McAuliffe (NHSmail COE)

At the Centre of Excellence, we are passionate about listening to the ideas of health and care staff and working hard to turn them into reality. That is why we have made it easy for you to share your experiences and ideas with us:

  • YourVoice is a feedback community within Teams that enables you to share your ideas with us on how the digital tools available to you can be improved, and to vote on other people’s suggestions. Get involved with YourVoice today.
  • We always enjoy talking to health and care staff in user research sessions. This involves speaking with a friendly member of our team on a Microsoft Teams call to tell us about your ideas and experiences at work. User research sessions help us understand what people working across health and care need from technology, and how we can develop solutions to meet these needs. Register your details here to take part in user research.

We are committed to developing new solutions to your problems and delighted to share with you some of the ways we have already done this.

Custom MS Teams backgrounds

We received an idea on YourVoice suggesting the introduction of custom NHS backgrounds to use on MS Teams calls. This idea was popular and received lots of votes from people across health and care.

We thought custom Teams backgrounds was a fantastic idea and rapidly got to work on turning it into reality. We designed some generic health and care backgrounds to use for all occasions and then set to work creating bespoke backgrounds for specific events and seasons.

Here are a few of our favourites:

Our custom backgrounds are easy to use, promote community, and are perfect for looking professional or hiding a messy background! Find out more and download them from the Custom Backgrounds page on the support site.

Minute Taking Toolkit

During a conversation with medical administration staff, we were made aware of the issues that they face when it comes to minute taking. Not only is it a lengthy process to take and edit the minutes, but the approval process itself can be quite messy and time-consuming. The NHS staff suggested that the new transcription function in MS Teams would be helpful for taking minutes in meetings.

Inspired by the conversation, we went away and created the Minute Taking Toolkit. It uses automated processes such as the transcription function in MS Teams to make it quick and easy to record, share, edit and approve meeting minutes. This means that you can save time and produce more accurate meeting minutes.

Share your ideas with us

If you want to see your ideas brought to life, then share them on YourVoice or take part in a research session with a member of the Centre of Excellence team. We can’t wait to hear your ideas and we are excited to turn them into reality!
