Microsoft Ticket Reference: 2510300050002629

Current Status: ONGOING

Description: We are aware of an issue impacting a subset of AndroidOS devices where users are receiving the error “Redirect failed” when trying to navigate from portal.nhs.net to their email (outlook.office.com) via their device browser using the email URL.

Current Update: 04/11/2025 10:00:00AM – Microsoft have acknowledged that the root cause of this  issue is due to a recent update to the Microsoft Outlook Android app to accommodate changes required to support Microsoft 365 Copilot. These changes inadvertently caused an app URL redirect conflict. Users should look to install the Microsoft Outlook app and use it without the email URL on portal.nhs.net, or continue to utilise the existing workarounds mentioned below. A fix is expected to be available in Microsoft Outlook for Android version 5.2543.0 though we are awaiting confirmation of the release timeline.

Two workarounds have been identified to help impacted users access their email through the Portal email URL:

  • Use an incognito browser session: Access the Portal and click the ‘Email’ link in an incognito/private browsing window. This method has been successful in most cases and should be tried first.
  • Disable Supported Links in Outlook: If the above does not resolve the issue, go to Settings → Apps on your Android device, locate the Outlook app, and toggle off Supported Links. Our testing indicates this allows the redirect from NHS.net Portal to function correctly.

Please note, we have had no reports of impact to devices running on iOS and this issue is not present when the same activity is performed using a laptop or personal computer.

Further updates will be shared as soon as they are available.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
