Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Do I need to purchase Microsoft Teams Premium licences for my organisation?

You are encouraged to use the centrally provisioned and managed trial licences before purchasing Microsoft Teams Premium licences for your organisation.

These are available for your organisation upon request. Please raise a case via NHS England National Service Desk Customer Portal.

Do I need to install anything to use Teams Premium?

No. If you have a Teams Premium licence assigned to you, Teams Premium features can be used directly from Microsoft Teams.

How do I know if Teams Premium is available for me?

There will be features and functionalities available for you that are not available to other colleagues without Teams Premium licences when scheduling and attending meetings.

How is Teams Premium different from Microsoft Teams?

Teams Premium provides extra features in addition to those already available in Microsoft Teams.

You can consult the Microsoft article comparing both subscriptions for more information. Please note some functionalities are not available in the NHSmail shared tenant or are not available for Local Administrators to consult. You may also consult the Teams Premium Features article.

Why are some Microsoft Teams features missing?

Since the general release of Teams Premium, some features have moved to Teams Premium. Please consult this Microsoft article for more information.

Is Teams Premium the same as Copilot?

No. Teams Premium is an advanced collaboration capability in Microsoft Teams, whilst Copilot is an advanced AI in Microsoft 365 (beyond Microsoft Teams).

Can I use Intelligent features in meetings without recording them?

No. Recording a meeting is required to utilise Intelligent features. Additionally, certain Intelligent features are only available to attendees with a Teams Premium licence, such as speaker and timeline markers, or notes and tasks.

Does everyone attending a meeting, webinar or town hall need to have Teams Premium?

As a licenced Teams Premium user, you can schedule and organise meetings, webinars and town halls with colleagues not licenced with Teams Premium (including non-NHSmail colleagues) and use the Teams Premium features available.

However, please note that attendees might only benefit from certain Teams Premium features if they also have a Teams Premium licence (for example, Intelligent features such as speaker and timeline markers, or notes and tasks).

Can I turn on a watermark during the meeting or turn it off while I’m in the meeting?

No. Changes to enable or disable watermark do not take effect once the meeting has begun. You must enable/disable watermarking before the meeting starts.

Why are some Teams Premium meeting options locked?

If you see a lock symbol next to a meeting option (or the option is greyed out), it means that this meeting option has been configured in the NHSmail shared tenant to not allow organisers to make changes to it.

The meeting options available may vary if you are scheduling a meeting, webinar or town hall, or if you are using meeting templates.
