Issue Description : We have identified an issue which occurred between 15:10 and 15:45 which caused a potential delay in the delivery of external emails to the nhs.net domain. Our initial investigations suggest that the issue would have resulted in a delay for mails from external domains to nhs.net, and mails sent via the SMTP Relay (or high-sending solution) only. The delay would have been up to 20 minutes maximum.
A Sev A ticket has been raised with Microsoft to check infrastructure and help to determine the root cause. Further details will be shared as they become available.
Final Update : 21/10/2022 17:30:00 PM– Despite close collaboration between our NHSmail engineers and various Microsoft colleagues, a root cause for this issue has not been identified. All checks performed to validate the infrastructure in use on the platform was behaving as expected were successful. The backlog of mails was cleared in under 30 minutes and we have had no further reports of this issue on our internal monitoring tools or via end user reports to the NHSmail Service Desk.
