Important Information: EAS and RPC basic authentication deprecation reminder
Dear Primary / Local Administrator,
As previously communicated, basic authentication is being deprecated on the NHSmail tenant in line with Microsoft policy and is being replaced by modern authentication to make the service more secure.
This is a reminder that as part of Phase 1 the following protocols will be deprecated this week from the 27 April:
- Exchange ActiveSync (EAS)
- Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
For your information as a Local Administrator, we plan to send out the user communication attached to those still appearing to be using EAS in our reports to warn them of the potential impact.
Also be aware that Remote Power Shell (RPS), Exchange Web Services (EWS), Post Office Protocol (POP) and Internet Messaging Access Protocol (IMAP) will be deprecated on the 25 May 2023.
What do I need to do?
Please ensure that the support teams in your organisation are aware of the EAS and RPC deprecation on the 27 April, and that users using these protocols will be unable to access Exchange Online for mobile applications and desktop clients.
Please note that all users will still be able to access their NHSmail mailbox via Outlook Web Access. To do so, go to the NHSmail Portal click on Email in the top menu and authenticate using the NHSmail username and password.
