Issue Description: Users may have been unable to provision Windows Autopilot devices and admins may’ have seen installation failures in reports.
More info: This event specifically impacted organizations that receive Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel updates. Affected admins saw Microsoft Intune admin center reports that indicated Microsoft 365 app installations were still in progress, even though they had actually succeeded. Affected users could install and use the Microsoft 365 apps as expected, but couldn”t provision Windows Autopilot devices due to the Microsoft 365 apps installation status issue
Final Update: 11/01/2024 10:07:00 AM – Microsoft have confirmed with available users and admins that the impact is no longer reproducible. They have also performed tests and monitored telemetry to confirm the installation status issue has been resolved.
Scope of impact: This event may have impacted any organization that receives Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel updates.
Root cause: A code change within the most recent Microsoft 365 apps feature update that was deployed through the Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel caused the wrong installation status for Microsoft 365 apps to be returned, which impacted organizations that receive Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel updates.
Next steps: To help prevent similar impact in the future, Microsoft are reviewing their code change validation procedures to catch such issues before changes are made.
