NHSMail Reference: INC39150053

Microsoft Reference: OD684611

Issue Status: RESOLVED

Issue Description: Users may be unable to open .txt, .pdf. and .msg files through shortcuts in OneDrive for Business.

More info: Affected users may have encountered unexpected UI behavior when attempting to open .txt, .pdf. and .msg files through shortcuts in OneDrive for Business, seeing them displayed as empty folders rather than showing the expected content.

Users should have been able to access the affected files directly through non-shortcut access methods as expected.

Final Update: 30/10/2023 07:36:00 AM  The fix deployment has completed, and Microsoft have confirmed that impact was remediated.

Scope of impact: Users serviced by the affected infrastructure attempting to open .txt, .pdf. and .msg files through shortcuts in OneDrive for Business.

Root cause: A recent change made to a dependency service, which facilitates PDF rendering for exported Power BI documents, inadvertently contains a regression that’s causing impact.

Next steps: Microsoft are further reviewing the context surrounding the offending service change so they can understand why PDF files were treated as folders erroneously and help prevent similar impact in the future.
