NHSmail Reference : INC37342507

Microsoft Reference : TM663429

Issue Status : RESOLVED

Issue Description : Users may encounter intermittent crashes when using the Microsoft Teams desktop client.

More Info : Impact is specific to users that are using Skype for Business and Microsoft Teams simultaneously. The crashes are a result of increased log collection in Microsoft Teams that’s consuming excessive device disk space and CPU usage. As a workaround and while we focus on a remediation plan, users may be able to utilize the web application.

Final Update : 01/08/2023 08:50:00 AM After the deployment of our fix, Microsoft have confirmed with affected users that impact has been remediated. Users that may still see the problem will need to restart both their Microsoft Teams client and their Skype for Business client to experience the remediation of impact.

Scope of impact : Impact is specific to some guest users who are served through the affected infrastructure, attempting to join external meetings using the Microsoft Teams web client.

Root cause : A recent service change, introduced to address an unrelated issue, inadvertently contains a code regression that’s causing excessive logging to be generated when users are using Skype for Business and Microsoft Teams simultaneously. The increased logging is causing excessive device disk space and CPU usage consumption, thus resulting in Microsoft Teams client crashes.

Next steps : Microsoft are further analyzing the offending service change and the code regression so they can help identify similar issues during our testing and validation processes and before they can result in impact.
