Issue Description : Some users receive an error when attempting to open files within OneDrive for Business.
More Information : Users’ files from OneDrive for Business are automatically being opened in “Read Only” mode after receiving the following error message:
“Unknown error trying to lock file.”
Final Update : 06/04/2023 09:15:00 AM – Microsoft’s investigation has determined that a recent update to the Microsoft Office client code base introduced an incompatibility that led to impact. They’ve reverted this code base to its most recent healthy configuration to repair this issue, and their service telemetry confirms that access to the affected files is restored and impact is remediated.
Scope of impact : Impact is specific to users using Microsoft Office Client version 16.0.16130.20332.
Root cause : A recent update to the Microsoft Office client code base introduced an incompatibility that led to impact.
Next steps : Microsoft are reviewing their Microsoft Office client code base update procedures pertaining to file access to prevent similar future impact.
