NHSmail Reference : INC34838472

Microsoft Reference : TM528899

Issue Status : RESOLVED

Issue Description : Users with Lenovo devices may see a black preview screen due to camera restart failures during Microsoft Teams meetings.

More Information : Impact was specific to approximately one percent of Lenovo devices that were using 720p HD resolution in Microsoft Teams meetings.

Users could have expedited the remediation by directly downloading the driver version 2.3.15.3 at the following link: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-t14s-gen-3-type-21cq-21cr/downloads/ds555195-lenovo-view-driver-for-windows-11-version-21h2-or-later-10-version-20h2-or-later-thinkpad-x1-carbon-gen-10-x1-yoga-gen-7

Final Update : 16/05/2023 08:58:00 AM – After extensive review, Microsoft have determined that the driver version 2.3.15.3 update was automatically pushed out to affected devices that had been set to receive manufacturer updates automatically. No additional Windows update is necessary to remediate the problem on these devices and they have confirmed with affected users that the driver update resolves impact. Users that haven’t automatically received the driver update should follow the steps outlined in the More Info section.

Root cause : A recent external driver update version 2.3.15.2 caused an increase in restart failures occurring for cameras built-in to Lenovo devices which resulted in a black preview screen being shown during Microsoft Teams meetings and calls.

Next steps : Microsoft are reviewing Microsoft Teams maintenance policies pertaining to external driver updates to better identify and remediate similar future issues before impact occurs.
