Issue Description : Users with Windows Arm-based devices might have issues signing into some Microsoft 365 services.

More info : Impact is specific to desktop clients on Windows devices which are using Arm processors, specifically with the June 14, 2022, Windows security update.

Some impacted scenarios include, but aren’t limited to, the following:

– Apps and services which use Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) to sign in

– VPN connections

– Microsoft Teams desktop

– OneDrive for Business

– Outlook Desktop client

Affected platforms: Windows 11, version 21H2; Windows 10, version 21H2; Windows 10, version 21H1; Windows 10, version 20H2

While Microsoft are focused on resolving the issue, users who are able to may use the web versions of the affected apps to access the services as expected.

Scope of impact : This issue may affect any user with Windows Arm-based devices who have the latest June 14, 2022, Windows security update.

Final Update : 21/06/2022 09:02:00 AM – Microsoft’s investigation has determined that the Windows security update released on June 14, 2022 to Windows Arm-based devices was missing an Azure Active Directory (AAD) code library necessary for sign-in functionality, which prevented users from signing in using AAD and led to impact. They have developed and deployed a fix to restore the missing library and repair this issue, and have confirmed after monitoring the service environment that sign-in functionality has been restored and impact is remediated.

Root cause : The Windows security update released on June 14, 2022 to Windows Arm-based devices was missing an Azure Active Directory (AAD) code library necessary for sign-in functionality, which prevented users from signing in using AAD and led to impact.

Next steps : Microsoft are reviewing their AAD update procedures pertaining to the sign-in code pathway to better identify similar issues during the development and testing cycles.
