Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise (Device Based) licenses guidance

As part of the NHS.net Connect Intune service Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise (Device Based) licenses are now available.  This allows organisations to onboard their Apps for Enterprise (Device Based) licences to the shared tenant and assign those licences to devices connected to the shared tenant.

Device-based licenses are designed to simplify management of Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise on devices shared by many users. Anyone (including un-licensed users) that signs in and uses that device can use Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise to create and edit documents.

Managing the licences

Once an organisation has procured their Device Based licenses, via their preferred supplier or local process, the organisation will need to onboard those licences to the shared tenant and request those licences be assigned to specific devices.

To onboard and assign the licences please complete the following form – Applications for Enterprise (A4E) Device Licencing Request Form

There are 3 options:

  • Onboard License Only – this will allow you to onboard your licences to the shared tenant but will not be assigned to any devices.
  • Assign and Use License Only – this will allow you to assign previously onboarded licences to the devices as per your requirements.
  • Onboard, Assign and Use License – this will allow you to onboard your licences to the shared tenant, and assign to the devices as per your requirements.

Once the form has been completed and submitted the required steps will be undertaken and upon completion you will be notified via email.

Important Note:

Please be aware that if there are insufficient available licences to licence all the devices in your request you will be notified by email to inform you which devices have and have not been licenced, and additional licencing will need to be procured and onboarded before requesting any further devices be licenced.
