Issue Description: End users are receiving an error when attempting to chat with a Copilot agent.
More info: Impact was limited to Copilot agents embedded in websites.
End users may have received the following error messages:
Public websites – “Unable to start chat. Please refresh the page and try again.”
Demo websites – “The agent is not available right now
Try reloading the page. If the problem persists, contact your admin.”
Final Update: 02/07/2026 09:58:00 AM –Microsoft has identified a code change in a recent service update introduced a regression, resulting in impact. They rolled back the affecting service update and confirmed via testing and service health diagnostics that functionality has been restored.
Scope of impact: Some users attempting to begin onboarding for Microsoft Defender for Endpoint or Defender for Office 365 may be impacted.
Root cause: A code change introduced a regression.
