Issue Status: ONGOING

Issue Description: Users may be unable to open some files in the Microsoft Project Online desktop client from SharePoint Online.

More info: This issue specifically affects opening Microsoft Project Plan (MPP) files. Affected users can bypass the impact by starting the Microsoft Project Online desktop client before attempting to open MPP files. Once Microsoft Project Online has been started, affected users can open MPP files without issue. If impact reoccurs, users can start Microsoft Project Online on their desktop again to bypass the reoccurring impact. Additionally, users may be able to open these files through Project for the web as an alternative while we troubleshoot this problem.

Current Update: 21/06/2024 10:03:00 AM Microsoft have completed development of the fix and are reviewing it to ensure it works as expected. The fix consists of blocking background actions that are preventing file access, which was caused by a change to the Microsoft Office themes UI configuration. Once the fix is approved, they’ll begin deployment. They expect that the deployment will complete by the time of their next update.

Scope of impact: Any user attempting to open some files in the Microsoft Project Professional desktop client from SharePoint Online may be impacted.
