Issue Status: RESOLVED
Issue Description: Non-owner users can’t refresh some Gen2 Dataflows in Microsoft Fabric.
More info: The impact was specific to Microsoft Fabric tenants using Dataflow Gen2 created after Thursday, July 9, 2026, with On-Premises Data Gateway (OPDG) connections.
Affected users received the error “Data source credentials are missing or invalid” (Error 999999) despite having valid Workspace Admin and Connection Owner permissions.
While the team worked to remediate the impact, admins could explicitly grant “Connection Creator” permissions on the OPDG for affected users.
Additionally, admins could have resolved this issue using the following steps:
– Open dataflow
– Go to Options > Scale > and disabled the feature –
Query Evaluation
Allow use of the modern query evaluation engine.
Final Update: 14/08/2026 09:32:00 AM– Following Microsoft’s deployment of the fix, internal service telemetry has validated that non-owner users are able to refresh Gen2 Dataflows in Microsoft Fabric, and that the impact had been remediated.
Scope of impact: Your organization was impacted by this event, and the impact was limited to non-owner users refreshing some dataflows created after Thursday, July 9, 2026, in Microsoft Fabric.
Root cause: A configuration update enabled a requirement preventing users without “Connection Creator” permissions from refreshing Dataflows, resulting in impact.
Next steps: Microsoft is further analyzing the offending update to the configuration so they can improve their pre-deployment testing and validation processes, and in their effort to reduce similar impact in the future.
