Issue Status: RESOLVED
Issue Description: Admins’ Microsoft Defender for Endpoint (MDE) server devices have the incorrect DeviceOSType in Microsoft Intune portal.
More info:Additionally, this issue also resulted in admins who had dynamic device groups that leveraged the DeviceOSType property in their device group membership to be different than expected.
Final Update: 24/08/2026 01:56:00 PM – After Microsoft’s completed fix deployment, they have validated with affected admins that server devices have the correct Device OSType in the Microsoft Intune portal, and that the impact has been remediated.
Scope of impact: Your organization was affected by this event, and admins saw incorrect DeviceOSType values for some MDE Attach servers in the Microsoft Intune portal.
Root cause: A recent update to help improve Windows device metadata produced a misconfiguration between Microsoft Defender for Endpoint and Microsoft Intune.
Next steps: Microsoft is further analysing the offending recent service update and the configurations between Microsoft Defender for Endpoint and the Microsoft Intune services to help them prevent similar issues in the future.
