Issue Description: Some users may be unable to begin onboarding for Microsoft Defender for Endpoint or Defender for Office 365.
More info: As a workaround, users can open the file in the Excel desktop app instead.
Final Update: 17/06/2026 09:02:00 AM – Microsoft has confirmed with a subset of affected users that impact has been remediated.
Scope of impact: Some users attempting to begin onboarding for Microsoft Defender for Endpoint or Defender for Office 365 may be impacted.
Root cause: A recent service update to introduce an additional authorization check is resulting in the impact.
Next steps: Microsoft is reviewing their authorization change procedures to help prevent the issue from reoccurring.
