Issue Status: RESOLVED
Issue Description: Users can’t exit Kiosk mode on Microsoft Intune enrolled MHS devices and encounter an error.
More info: Affected users are encountering the following message:
“Set up PIN
A PIN to exit kiosk mode has not been set by your IT admin. To exit kiosk mode on this device, contact your company’s administrator to make sure that a PIN has been set.”
Users can use the three following options to bypass the impact while we work on our fix:
1. Update an existing device configuration policy to make a new exit kiosk mode PIN. This will be sent as encrypted and therefore will work appropriately on devices
2. Create a new device configuration policy with an exit kiosk mode PIN. This will be sent as encrypted and therefore will work appropriately on devices
3. Use the device action to temporarily drop out of kiosk mode without a code. Information on that can be found here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/intune/whats-new/#new-remote-actions-to-suspend-and-restore-managed-home-screen-on-android-devices
Final Update: 11/08/2026 10:00:00 AM – Following their completed fix deployment, users are able to exit Kiosk mode on Microsoft Intune enrolled MHS devices as expected. For any devices that remain impacted, admins will need to verify that “Leave Kiosk Mode” and “Leave Kiosk Mode Code” are still configured as intended before saving any policy changes. If PIN was cleared due to the editing of a policy since June 12, 2026, admins will need to update them before the impact is remediated.
Scope of impact: Your organisation may have been impacted by this event, and some users on Intune enrolled MHS devices who attempted to exit kiosk mode using an admin-provided PIN may have been affected.
Root cause: Exit Kiosk code wasn’t updated after Microsoft Intune enrolled device configurations were updated by admins, preventing users from exiting Kiosk mode from devices.
Next steps: Microsoft is further analysing the Kiosk code and their updating of Microsoft Intune enrolled devices to help them prevent similar issues in the future.
