Information – TLS Deprecation Comms
27/09/2024 17:45:00 PM
We are aware that a communication was sent out yesterday relating to a Microsoft decision to deprecate TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1. Whilst the details within the communication were accurate, the intention had been to send a single communication to each PLA containing a list of impacted accounts so that action could be taken. Further comms are due to be sent out next week which will provide that additional information in a single mail.
What Is Happening?
Effective 31 October 2024, Microsoft will deprecate support for TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 protocols on certain infrastructures. This means that any email applications or devices using these legacy protocols to send emails may experience disruptions or failures after this date.
Action Required:
To ensure uninterrupted email service, we recommend that your IT administrators:
- Review all email-related applications, devices, and systems within your organisation.
- Confirm that they support TLS 1.2 or higher for sending emails.
- Upgrade or reconfigure any systems that currently rely on TLS 1.0 or TLS 1.1.
Why Is This Important?
TLS (Transport Layer Security) protocols are critical for securing email communications. Upgrading to TLS 1.2 or higher not only aligns with industry standards but also enhances the security of your data transmission across the NHSmail platform.
Please Note:
- We are providing this information as a general notice and will not supply specific details about individual accounts or devices that may be affected.
- Taking proactive steps now will help prevent potential service disruptions when the legacy protocols are deprecated.
