Final Update: 22/07/2024 09:18:00 AM – After an extended period of monitoring, Microsoft have determined this incident has been largely mitigated and has returned to acceptable thresholds following the significant decrease in the number of impacted devices. Based on their available telemetry they have identified a small number of organizations who may still be experiencing some residual impact and have published communications to those customers directly under WP823705 to troubleshoot their devices separately. Microsoft are confident the issue will not resurface; however, they will continue to monitor CrowdStrikes progress and are prepared to take action if additional impact does occur. They appreciate your consideration and understand how impactful this event has been to your organization and thank you for your continued trust with their service during these external impacting event scenarios.
Scope of impact: Impact is specific to some users who are served through the affected infrastructure.
Root cause: A recent update to the third-party CrowdStrike Falcon Sensor software directly affected Microsoft Windows Cloud PC virtual machines by causing them to experience BSOD failure errors and continuous restart loops if the machines were utilizing CrowdStrike Falcon Sensor software.
