Issue Status: RESOLVED
Issue Description: Users may experience intermittent freezes or failures when sharing their window in the Microsoft Teams desktop client
More info: This issue impacts screen sharing scenarios where the affected user is sharing a specific window in Windows versions 26100 or newer; users sharing their desktop or using an older version of Windows aren’t impacted. The issue occurs when the shared content is static without any movement. Once triggered, affected viewers may observe that the shared window stops updating and enters a stuck state.
While they work to resolve this issue, affected users can bypass the impact by using desktop sharing rather than window sharing, or by using the Microsoft Teams web client to share screens as that client is unaffected. Presenters may additionally be able to temporarily bypass the issue by moving the mouse or changing screen content within the shared screen.
Final Update: 13/12/2024 09:11:00 AM – Microsoft have confirmed that their fix build has reached all affected users, and they have determined from service telemetry that this issue is resolved.
Scope of impact: Any user sharing their screen in window sharing mode in the Microsoft Teams desktop client may be intermittently impacted.
Root cause: Changes included in Windows 11 24H2 (build 26100+) and later, which provide optimizations related to screen capture, are resulting in negative impact when users share their window in the Microsoft Teams desktop client.
Next Steps: Microsoft are reviewing their validation and update procedures to better detect and prevent issues like this prior to deployment in the future.
