Issue Description: The Microsoft 365 Defender Safe Links feature isn’t verifying the safety of links

Final Update: 16/12/2024 08:47:00 AM – Microsoft have deployed the code fix to all affected environments and confirmed through monitoring service telemetry that impact has been remediated.

Scope of impact: Your organization was affected by this event, and links users clicked on weren’t being checked by Safe Links.

Root cause: A recent change intended to improve authentication efficiency was causing exceptions, resulting in impact.

Next steps: Microsoft are reviewing their feature update testing and validation methods to better identify the potential for impact to the Microsoft 365 Defender Safe Links feature prior to deployment to prevent similar impact in the future, and to improve our pre-deployment update testing processes.
