NHSmail Reference : INC36661817

Microsoft Reference : TM574203

Issue Status : RESOLVED

Issue Description : Users with the proper license may be unable to access and use avatars Microsoft Teams.

More info : If your organization has a license that entitles users to avatars for Microsoft Teams (Microsoft 365 Enterprise E3, Microsoft 365 Enterprise E5, Microsoft 365 Business Standard, Microsoft 365 Business Premium, Teams Premium licenses, or Office 365 E1/E3/E5 licenses), some users may not have access to avatars as expected.

Users without the proper licenses may be able to install the Avatars app within Microsoft Teams but can’t use avatars in meetings. To avoid confusion and potential errors, we recommend that admins block the Avatars app for users without the aforementioned licenses. Further information about meeting avatars, including steps to block access if desired or how to enable the app for those who do have the correct license, can be found here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/meeting-avatars

Final Update : 10/07/2023 18:07:00 PM – Microsoft determined through service health telemetry and customer reports that the fix is working as intended and impact is remediated.

Scope of impact : Some users with the proper license may be unable to access and use avatars.

Root cause : A recent change to introduce support for avatars in Microsoft Teams was not deployed to all licenses, resulting in impact.

Next steps : Microsoft are reviewing their update procedure to ensure future updates target the expected audience.
