Issue Description : Mailbox auto-forwarding rules may have been forwarding email messages and being sent to distribution groups.
More info : Users were able to reset the forwarding rules on the impacted mailboxes as a means to immediately unblock themselves.
Final Update : 26/06/2023 08:39:00 AM – Microsoft determined that a recent configuration change, aimed to improve functionality with distribution groups, resulted in auto forwarding rules not being applied as expected and causing impact. They have corrected the the configuration and received confirmation from your organization that the issue has been remediated.
Scope of impact : Users may have been affected by this event, and the issue was affecting distribution groups with a mailbox auto-forwarding rule applied.
Root cause : A recent configuration change, aimed to improve functionality with distribution groups, resulted in auto forwarding rules not being applied as expected and causing impact.
