Issue Description : Users’ email alerts for shared files in SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business files were delayed up to an hour.

More info : While users were still able to access files via most methods, files requiring one time passwords (OTP) may be inaccessible because the OTP email message is delayed.

Scope of impact : This issue may have affected any users’ email alerts for shared files and OTP email messages in SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business files.

Final Update : 09/12/2022 08:50:00 AM – Microsoft has confirmed with several affected users that infrastructure optimizations alongside reverting the impacting update has remediated impact.

Root cause : A feature update was causing service resources related to creating and processing email alerts and notifications to reach a performance threshold, resulting in impact.
