Information – NHS Care Identity (Smartcard) Sign In

As discussed on the LA webinar, we will be sending an all-user email later this week from the ‘no-reply’ mailbox which will inform users of an upcoming change to the NHSmail portal login page.

This feature will provide a convenient alternative way to sign in to the NHSmail Portal and Office 365 applications accessed online via a web browser for those users that have an NHS Care Identity (Smartcard).

From mid-November 2022 all users will see a change to the NHSmail portal, with the NHS Care Identity (Smartcard) sign in option available.

If users do not have an NHS Care Identity (Smartcard), they will still be able to login via their NHSmail credentials and they don’t need to take any action.

If users do have an NHS Care Identity (Smartcard), they will need to link this to their NHSmail account to be ready to use this sign in feature.

We encourage users to pre-register by following the user guide and link that will be in the communication and accessible via the NHSmail support site.
