Issue Description : Users may be unable to open or save Office 365 files in edit mode from SharePoint Online lists.
More Information : Users may have encountered the error message “The workbook cannot be opened”, when attempting to open Office 365 files from SharePoint Online lists, resulting in read-only view.
Scope of impact : Any user hosted on the affected infrastructure that attempted to open or save Office 365 files in edit mode from SharePoint Online lists may have been impacted.
Final Update : 17/08/2022 12:00:00 PM – Microsoft has completed their deployment to all affected infrastructure. After extensive monitoring they have confirmed that the issue is fully resolved for users previously impacted by this event.
Root cause : A recent service update contained a code error that resulted in a file locking scenario within the previewing function, preventing users from opening or saving Office 365 files in edit mode from SharePoint Online lists.
Next steps: Microsoft is analyzing how a code error was introduced in the preview function and prevent it from reoccurring in the future.
They will publish a post-incident report within five business days.
