Issue Description: Users may have been unable to execute the SharePoint 2013 ‘Assign a Task’ action or ‘Send an Email’ workflows.

Final Update: 12/12/2025 08:56:00 AM – Microsoft have confirmed that the recent change, which was intended to update the way requests are structured, caused the workflows to send malformed requests and resulted in the workflows failing. After reversing this change for a subset of affected users was verified to be successful in resolving the issue, they have applied this action broadly and confirmed with additional affected users that this has remediated the impact.

Scope of impact: Some users attempting to execute the ‘Assign a Task’ action or ‘Send an Email’ workflows were impacted.

Root cause: A recent change intended to update the way requests are structured caused the workflows to send malformed requests and resulted in the workflows failing.

Next update by: Microsoft are continuing to analyze this change to better understand how it caused the malformed requests so they can correct any issues and ensure this doesn’t reoccur.
