Final Update: 18/07/2025 09:00:00 AM – After monitoring Microsoft’s service health telemetry for an extended period, they’ve determined that the previously mentioned fix was effective in resolving the issue, but was delayed in taking effect. Their telemetry has confirmed that the fix has now restored the Immersive Reader feature for the affected users as expected and impact is remediated.
Scope of impact: This issue could have potentially affected any user that attempted to leverage the Immersive Reader feature in the services outlined in the More info section of this communication.
Root cause: An update to authentication components coincided with an Immersive Reader feature update, which resulted in an outdated authentication call and subsequently caused the service to deny authentication requests for the Immersive Reader feature.
Next steps: Microsoft are reviewing their update procedures pertaining to the authentication components responsible for facilitating access to the Immersive Reader feature to prevent similar impact in future updates.
