NHSmail Reference: INC44457703

Microsoft Reference: SP820584

Issue Status: RESOLVED

Issue Description: Some users may be unable to use ‘Copy to’ to copy files from SharePoint Online sites to another folder and get an error.

More info: A portion of the error message users may see when trying to copy files is, “The URL is invalid.”

This issue may be happening in the user interface and the Rest API.

Specifically, impact may only be to some sites when users copy files from a document library to the same document library, and from a folder library to the same folder library.

Users can use the “Move to” option without issues.

Final Update: 22/07/2024 08:30:00 AM Microsoft determined that disabling the impacting flight, which is effectively the offending update, on a broader scale would be an effective remediation plan. They have completed disabling the update, and confirmed with internal testing that the issue is resolved.

Scope of impact: This issue may impact some users that are attempting to copy files in some SharePoint Online sites.

Root cause: A recent deployment contains a code issue that may be preventing users from using the “Copy to” feature as expected in SharePoint Online.

Next steps: Microsoft are further reviewing the recently deployed update to understand how the code issue was introduced, and to understand what prevented it from being detected in their update testing and validation procedures, which will allow them to prevent similar issues in future updates.
