Final Update: 29/07/2024 08:50:00 AM – Microsoft have reviewed their service telemetry data and identified a portion of Exchange Online infrastructure that handles authentication requests encountered a communication problem. They’ve restarted the authentication process for the affected portion of infrastructure and monitored telemetry to confirm the impact is remediated.
Scope of impact: Some users serviced by the affected infrastructure whose email messages were being delayed when sent through Exchange Online may have been impacted.
Root cause: A portion of Exchange Online infrastructure that handles authentication requests encountered a communication problem.
Next steps: Microsoft are investigating methods that will help us better identify the potential for impact to portions of infrastructure that are at risk of encountering a communication problem so they can drive service improvements and prevent similar issues from happening in the future.
