Issue Description : Users are continuously prompted to authenticate when using the newest version of Power BI Desktop.

More Information : Users primarily encountered impact when trying to save, open, or publish reports while using the newest April 2023 version of Power BI Desktop. Users could’ve downgraded to the March 2023 version of Power BI Desktop to avoid this issue.

Final Update : 24/04/2023 09:25:00 AM – Microsoft have identified that a previous code fix applied on April 20, 2023, to address a separate issue also successfully resolved the authentication prompt impact to the newest April 2023 version of Power BI Desktop. Users that have automatic updates applied would have experienced relief; however, users that don’t have automatic updates applied will need to manually update to the latest April 2023 version of Power BI Desktop for remediation.

Scope of impact : Impact may have occurred for any user when using the newest version of Power BI Desktop.

Root cause : A recent change to a portion of Power BI authentication infrastructure resulted in an authorization component misconfiguration.

Next steps : Microsoft are reviewing their code for improved performance and potential automated recovery options to reduce or avoid similar issues in the future.
