Issue Description : Users’ thumbnail photos fail to display in the Outlook desktop client.

Final Update : 03/02/2023 09:57:00 AM – Microsoft have validated the fix for the API source of user profile photo requests and deployed it to the affected environment. They have confirmed through internal telemetry and with affected users that the impact was remediated.

Scope of Impact : Users’ thumbnail photos may fail to display in the Outlook desktop client if they are serviced by the affected infrastructure.

Root cause : A recent change, which was intended to utilize a new API source for requests for user profile photos to be routed, is causing thumbnail photos to fail to display in the Outlook desktop client.

Next steps : Microsoft are reviewing our service update procedures to help better prevent similar API issues prior to the deployment.
