NHSmail Academy: Viva Learning FAQ’s

How do I access Viva Learning?

On the left navigation bar of Microsoft Teams, clicking on the three dots (…) and type in Viva Learning on the search bar. Then, select the Viva Learning icon and the app will appear within Teams.

Do I need any specific license to access Viva Learning?

No add-on license will be required for Viva Learning to view/use the content as part of NHSmail Academy as long as you have the E3/National license (license users have as part of NHSmail).

Do I need a LinkedIn premium license to access their courses?

LinkedIn offers free and paid courses via Viva learning. Users will require a LinkedIn premium license to access those paid courses and their LinkedIn account username must be their @nhs.net email address.

Why does Viva Learning include content for out of support versions e.g. Excel 2010?

Even though some apps (e.g. Excel 2010) are not supported by Microsoft anymore, some of these are still being used by people and organisations around the world.

Could an NHS organisation add their own curated content courses on Viva Learning?

NHS England will be looking to introduce additional Viva services later, including a feature for organisations to curate their own training courses via Viva Learning.

Who are the owners of NHSmail Academy courses on Viva Learning?

The courses will be managed by the NHS England Centre of Excellence team.

Is it possible to turn off or filter the content that requires a premium license from third party supplier like Linkedin?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to hide/filter premium/paid content.

Will there be new providers added in the future, or can we make suggestions of other providers?

NHS England will be looking to introduce additional Viva services later on, including new learning content providers. Any suggestions can be submitted to feedback@nhs.net.

How was the NHSmail Academy training identified and validated?

We worked with the NHS England Centre of Excellence, and some Local Administrators and Digital Heroes to identify key pain points for an initial rollout.

Are the courses on Viva Learning aimed at clinical learning?

At the moment, courses under the NHSmail Academy and the other learning providers lean towards a more technology/digital approach. NHS England are keen to hear your feedback and input on potential future courses, suggestions can be submitted to feedback@nhs.net.

Can an organisation see who has completed what training via Viva Learning or is there reporting functionality to be able to 'sign off' staff training completion?

NHSmail users will be able to see those courses they have viewed and completed, but currently there is no report available at organisational level. NHS England will be looking to introduce additional Viva services later on.

Will Viva Learning be linked into the NHS Digital Staff Passport platform/Digital Learning Solutions?

NHS England will be looking to introduce additional Viva services later, and they are keen to hear your feedback and input on potential future courses, suggestions can be submitted to feedback@nhs.net.

Can you download course completion certificates on Viva Learning?

While Viva Learning currently does not have a direct feature for downloading certificates, if you have completed a course that offers a certificate, it may be available through the content provider’s platform (e.g. For courses from LinkedIn Learning, any certificates would be managed through LinkedIn Learning’s own system)

Any there any plans to link Viva Learning to Immersive Labs?

Are all the courses self-directed learning? How does this meet the needs of neurodiverse people who may do better with a 'buddy' system?

Unfortunately, Viva Learning primarily offers self-directed learning opportunities. While Viva Learning itself does not provide a built-in buddy system, your organization can create a supportive learning environment for neurodiverse individuals by fostering learning communities, e.g. sharing courses with your team members to encourage course completion.
