Guidance for organisations managed by the National Administration Service

NHSmail is being refreshed – are you ready?

We are upgrading your NHSmail service by providing all users with Office 365 subscriptions. This means, along with Teams, you will have access to a whole host of new features.

Many organisations have benefitted from Office 365 services throughout the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, continued access and an enhanced suite of applications will help improve collaboration across the NHS and social care.

What do you need to do?

You need to ensure your organisation is ready for the refresh by taking the following steps:

  • Large organisations (with IT support) – there are a number of steps required to prepare for the NHSmail service refresh. These requirements, including guidance for Outlook desktop, are described on the Getting Ready – Technical Pre-requisites webpage. Please consult this page for the necessary steps.
  • Small organisations (without IT support) – you will need to prepare for the NHSmail Refresh by following the simple steps below.

Steps for small organisations

These steps are for people accessing NHSmail via the web app (www.nhs.net) or mobile:

Step 1) If you access NHSmail through an internet browser on your computer, make sure that you are using one of the supported browsers listed below:

Windows:

  • Microsoft Edge
  • Internet Explorer 11 (with latest update)
  • Mozilla Firefox (latest version)
  • Google Chrome (latest version)

Mac OS X:

  • Apple Safari 10+
  • Google Chrome (latest version)

Step 2) If you access NHSmail through a mobile, iPad, tablet or any other handheld device, make sure that you are using one of the supported mobile versions listed below:

Mobile Device OS requirements:

  • Phone or tablet with Android 5.0 or later. This guide shows you how to check on your device.
  • iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with iOS 10 or later. This guide shows you how to check on your device.

If you use the Outlook application on your mobile phone, you will need to complete a few additional steps after the refresh – mobile device support guide.
