Supporting patients and health and social care staff who use digital communication in clinical practice
Research on the role of digital communication, carried out by Warwick Medical School and King’s College London shows how the new NHSmail platform might be used to support different types of digital collaboration. Factsheets have been developed to help understand the issues of using digital communication and inform you of the benefits of using different technologies such as email, text, mobile phone apps and Skype.
You can find the factsheet here.
About the LYNC study
The LYNC study has focussed on improving health outcomes for young people with long term conditions. Specifically, the role of digital communication in current and future patient-clinician communication for NHS providers of specialist clinical services focussed on people aged 16-24 years old, who were receiving specialist care for a range of long-term conditions, and their clinical teams.
The study looked at 20 clinical teams from across Britain, including those who used digital communication extensively, and those who used it only occasionally. The investigators used direct observation, doing over 350 interviews with patients and staff, and an examination of clinical policy and guidelines to collect data. This was then analysed for what works for whom, where, when and why, and also for ethical and safety issues. An analysis of the data is presented in the factsheets.
